This is just a standard 40 pin precision IC socket.
Some of my digitizer boards will not fit directly into some of their target machines due to space conflicts. By rising them up a bit using an intermediate socket, this can often be solved.
One example is the VICIIdizer in the ASSY 250407 motherboard.
Another example is the TIAdigitizer which also has problems with some Atari 2600 main boards (of which there are quite many, so I can not give a definitive list here).
A third way to use this stocket is to piggyback it onto a non-socketed 40-pin chip, to provide a way to mount digitizer boards. For that bend out the pins a little and fit it on top of your graphics chip. Solder all pins to the chip and and insert the appropriate digitizer on top.
